The principles of Makena's work initiate from influential city visionaries like Jane Jacobs and Jan Gehl, taking a cities-for-people approach to the built environment and higher quality of life initiatives. Makena received a Bachelor of Arts in Global Studies from Arizona State and a Master's of Science and Engineering in Sustainable Cities from Aalborg University in Copenhagen, Denmark. She's worked internationally and locally for Park City and Salt Lake City supporting transitions of cities to more livable, green, and resource rich places where communities can thrive.
