The principles of New Urbanism, as spelled out in its Charter, have guided Mike Hathorne’s work for years. He has also been on the front lines trying to figure out how to shape walkable, diverse communities, steer projects that foster walkable, diverse neighborhoods and centers, and to accomplish all this through strategic planning and design.
During Mike’s professional career he has sought an understanding of how development occurs and its relationship to community building. During his time working in both urban planning and residential development realizations have been made regarding the shortfalls of conventional development patterns and their unworthiness in further emulation.
Mike has found the Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU) to be an organization with positive solutions which demand further attention. He has worked closely with CNU through much of his professional career. He has chosen to serve CNU on multiple occasions and wearing many different hats while doing so. He presently serves as a leader in the Utah Chapter of CNU, demonstrating passion and commitment to community transformation in the process. He was instrumental in bringing CNU’s international conference to Salt Lake City in 2013 and then worked to form Utah’s local chapter.
